Boca Barrel

Boca Barrel is produced by Serena, a family owned winery located in Conegliano, Italy, in the heart of Prosecco country. Serena was founded in 1881, and Luca and Giorgio – the 5th generation – run the winery now. Serena introduced keg wines in 1987 and have been a category leader for over 30 years. Boca Barrel Kegs are 20L, one-way PET kegs with an internal bag, 100% recyclable and made in Italy. They use a standard S-Type European Sankey connection common in most restaurants and bars.

Philosophy

Serena is particularly sensitive to the environment; it dedicates time and energy to recycling waste material and is involved in several sustainable projects.
Together with Venice’s Ca’ Foscari University, we have started a research project to develop new energy-producing photovoltaic cells from vinification waste. The natural dyes in the ‘lees’, the dregs produced in wine making, which we supply, provide the coloring for photovoltaic panels that produce renewable, sustainable energy.
RafCycle Certification. This is a recycling project that gives a second life to the waste from wine bottle labels. The silicone paper backing for rolls of labels is re-used to create new ‘ecological’ labels.

Biography

Boca Barrel is produced by Villa Serena, located in the heart of the Prosecco region, a stone’s throw from Conegliano, to which it is closely linked.
The business has always been run by the family, now by the fourth and fifth generations with Giorgio Serena and his son Luca Serena, today at the head of the company. The family boasts a tradition of over 100 years in the wine trade, a true passion for wine-making and a tenacious will in performing its daily duties. Over time, its observance of viticulture regulations has merged with innovation while never forgetting its strong roots in the Veneto region.
