The story of Famiglia Cielo is a story of four generations who each played their foundational part in the success of the winery today. In 1908, Giovanni Cielo, "The Romantic", fell in love with a small estate in the Berici Shire overlooking the Romeo and Juliet castles in Veneto just South of Vicenza, an UNESCO cultural heritage site. His eldest son, Pietro ""The Believer"", knew the importance of continuing the family business and oversaw its survival through World War II and the first growing pains before handing it off to his sons Giovanni, Renzo, and Piergiorgio. Along with the rest of Italy's economy, Cielo boomed to unforeseen growth, becoming a household brand throughout the country. The winery is now handled by brothers Luca and Pierpaolo, who have expanded the brand to international markets.

Philosophy

The Cielo family founded the winery on tenets of trust, mindfulness, and conservation.

Trust means confiding in the land, the grapes that grow on it, the process of winemaking, and the people they deal with. There is a faithfulness to their business that is continually employed in every facet.

Mindfulness is centered on the wine itself and the impact Cielo can make on the greater world. They want to make sure each glass is enjoyed and understood. On the other side, 1% of proceeds go to the ""1% for the Planet"" organization, a network of businesses partnered with Amref Health Africa to donate clean water to villages where it is scarce, as well as build wells for continued sustenance.

Conservation can also be tied into Cielo's philanthropic endeavors, yet the winery is also focused on the preservation and treatment of their own land. Though they produce vast amounts of wine, their vineyards are treated as an ecosystem.
