The Story

This dessert wine was made from a block of the Musqué clone at the producer’s Meredith Estate, picked when they were raisined then fermented and aged in 60% new French oak. Legendary Sonoma winemaker who crafts a beautiful sweet Sauvignon Blanc Merry Edwards explains her inspiration: 'I have always been enamored with the great late-harvest wines of the world—the best Sauternes and Trockenbeerenauslese.' The former is the famed sweet white of Bordeaux, the latter ('TBA' for short) the sweetest of the German whites, both made from grapes that have been infected with the ominous-sounding fungus Botrytis cinerea, or 'noble rot.' In the process of drying and shriveling the grapes, botrytis leaves behind rich honeyed flavors and a haunting minerality—qualities key to the reputations of both wines."

Brand Story

As one of California’s first women winemakers, Merry began her career at Mount Eden Vineyards in 1974. At home in the Russian River Valley since 1977, Merry Edwards has explored its hills, pockets, slopes & hollows, discovering small sites where choosing the right rootstock, clone & farming techniques can produce exceptional grapes. This led her in 1996 to purchase land in the Sebastopol Hills. In 2019, Maison Louis Roederer acquired the Merry Edwards Winery. Frédéric Rouzaud, owner & President, is focused on ensuring continuity & adhering to the core values by which both wineries are connected: producing wines emblematic of their terroirs, all the while pushing the boundaries of land stewardship.
