Antucura

For Anne-Caroline Biancheri, the idea of starting a family represented the decision to undertake a life conceived from the values, landscapes and aromas with which she wanted to see her children grow up. She started with land. Looking for such a place, she discovered Vista Flores, in the Uco Valley of Mendoza. This privileged area of incomparable beauty, framed by the Andes mountains, offers the best climatic and geographical conditions to create emblematic wines. There, Antucura began to take root in the land of the original inhabitants of the area. A place where stones embrace vines on its rich terroir. Antucura means “Sun Stone”, according to the local ancient language Mapudungun.

Philosophy

Respecting the terroir, using old traditions and new technologies, we elaborate super and ultra premium wines. Under strict quality controls, we take care of each detail all along the elaboration process, from the vineyard to bottling.

Biography

Anne-Caroline and our winemaker Mauricio Ortiz created a great synergy between terroirs specific attributes and classic French vinification, giving our wines a sense of origin and elegance. Mauricio has worked for years always making premium wines. He also worked abroad at Chateau Barde-Haut Saint Emilion, Chateau Clos L'Eglise - Pomerol and Staglin Family Vineyard - Napa Valley.

Thanks to soil and temperature characteristics, Vista Flores has been established as the new best area to produce fine grapes. Located at 3.445 feet above sea level, Antucura is a 247 acres vineyard – 2.227 plants per acre, high density for Argentina – where the wine cellar rests on a bed of stones from glacial origin, with optimum conditions for its vines. Soil is limestone from alluvial origin with gravel in the subsoil, originating from a very rocky soil.
Climate is continental, with rare precipitations – 200 mm per year- Irrigation is by drip automated system. We imported the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines directly from Pomerol, France. Later on were added Malbec, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Infinitely starry cool nights, and days filled with sunshine, support the maturity of the grapes, which are then manually harvested.
