Basa Lore

Basa Lore translates in Basque to "Wild Flower from the Forest" - a reflection of the location and the Angel family philosophy. Located near San Sebastian in Zarautz, where the ocean meets the forest.
Basa Lore has been producing txakoli since 1930, now on the 4th generation Jose, Begoña and daughter Nerea. Such was their love for the terroir that together with 5 other wineries they founded the D.O. Getariako (Getar-e-ahko) Txakolina, predominantly focusing their winemaking on Hondarrabi Zuri & Beltza, indigenous grapes first planted in the region in 1425, as well as traditional methods to yield an old-style Txakoli. Precious to the Basque, Basa Lore wines are non-intervention, no sulfite added and native yeast. The trio have ensured an authenticity to their Txakoli that is ingrained in the history of the Basque country.

Philosophy

Basa Lore has been known for its natural, pure and authentic txakolis. Driven by our passion on producing the original txakoli, we have produced the first and only Zero added sulfite txakoli in the market, 100% natural. This is the old style txakoli, the one that our ancestors used to produce for generations before.

Biography

Jose Angel, the actual owner and winemaker, he has been taking care of the vineyards all his life. He uses the old style recipe, threating the land with care and passion, using as lees chemicals as possible, hand harvesting and producing the wines on the traditional way. We use this autoctonous-indigenous grape called Hondarrabi Zuri, planted for the first time in this regin in 1425.
The soil is very rich in minerals, soft, with a lot of water underneath and a bit sandy.
