Philosophy

The winery concentrates on varietal wines and premium red blends sourced from viticultural areas throughout Luján and Valle de Uco. All wines are made with the use of gravity and are never pumped to deliver the grapes to the fermentation tanks. All grapes are farmed without the use of herbicides or pesticides, are hand picked and sorted and vinified using native yeasts, which results in a more gradual fermentation curve and less intervention with refrigeration. Bodega Calle is a certified organic winery and the wines are GMO free and vegan. Also, the winery recently joined the DOC of Luján de Cuyo, the 5th winery ever to be admitted. Kirk Ermisch is its principal owner and general manager.

Biography

Our founder: Elvira Calle de Antequeda
In addition to her role as president of the board of the newspaper, Elvira was a shareholder of a television station, she had a construction company and she actively participated in various public welfare institutions.

For years she practiced her profession of notary public. She prided herself on having certified the deeds of “many poor families who purchased their first home”. Then she embraced her other great love, Sociology, coming to preside over the Academy of Social Sciences in Mendoza.

Despite a prolific life, Mrs. Elvira Calle decided in early 2001, to create a winery with two partners, Kirk Ermisch and Richard Battagion. Mrs. Calle explained why she had this initiative: “After the death of my father when I was very young, my mother was remarried to an exceptional man who became my second father. He had vineyards and I enjoyed it a lot when I was allowed to pay the field workers. Since that moment I always loved the wine industry, because it is the job of many people in my province. Even though life has filled me with satisfaction in everything I have undertaken, I was yearning in my heart, with the passage of time, to pursue the dream of creating a winery.”

Mrs. Elvira Calle passed away in the beginning of 2007. The original partners, who helped build the winery with her and turn it into reality, are still part of day to day operations. Through their dedication, the winery continues in this great tradition.
