Bosque de Matasnos

WINE WITH THE SOUL OF THE FOREST

Once upon a time, somewhere in the highlands of the Ribera del Duero, one of the best regions in the world for producing quality wine…

In 1960, the owners of a forest estate known simply as El Bosque (the Forest) decided to give its deepest part over to cereal.

What happened next is history…

The origin of the name
To make room for the cereal, the old owners moved millions of kilos of timber from that ill-fated forest. The neighboring residents came with their mules and donkeys to help clear the huge amount of timber.

The excessive strain killed many donkeys but gave life and a name to our forest: El Bosque de Matasnos (the Forest of dead donkeys).

A PLACE WITH SOUL

An enigmatic place, extraordinary, mesmerizing and beautiful. A place unlike any other, but without a soul. Or with many souls? Today, we invite you to listen to our Forest, which is called Matasnos. Today, we invite you to get to know Bosque de Matasnos and its wines.

Bosque de Matasnos’ vineyards sit at 950m (3,100 ft) from sea-level in the primest subzone of the appellation on sandy and clay soils. A total of 18 Ha. planted with vines up to 55 years old and controlled yields of less than 3,000 Kg. per hectare. Every detail is carefully watched at this top-quality producer that has taken the Spanish wine industry by storm. BMA sells 80% of its production in Spain at the country’s top restaurants.

Philosophy

Bosque de Matasnos is its own microclimate. everything within the forest is protected from outside harm. The entire forest is organic...even the honey!

We use sheep to clear the land, solar panels to power, we are making a lake and produce fully organic honey! (For honey to be certified organic, everything the bee feeds off of and touches must be organic as well)

As for our barrels, we use 12 different coopers as we know what the complexity of oak can do for a wine.
