I VERONI TUSCANY - ORGANIC WINERY

CHIANTI RUFINA DOCG AREA

The first document of I VERONI Winery are from 1582 this means that I VERONI is one of the oldest winery in Chianti Area .

I Veroni is located in the Village of Pontassieve passed along the River Arno inside the CHIANTI RUFINA AREA that is probably the oldest DOCG from CHIANTI wine together with Classico Area

The owner is now Lorenzo Mariani , his family bought this property in 1897 and they dedicated more then on century to take care of authentic products coming from this area , Sangiovese grapes and Olives.

Thanks to Lorenzo Mariani I Veroni embarked on a new direction. In the 1990s twenty hectares of vineyards were completely replanted and the gradual conversion to organic viticulture began, culminating in certified status from the 2013 vintage thank also to the help of a great Agronomist and Enologist that is Mr. Andrea Paoletti , man with a great experience that gave a special improvement to I Veroni’s Sangiovese and made possible I VERONI become one of the most important wines of the town of Florence

SANGIOVESE is the real king of The winery , I Veroni produces in particular two single vineyards

I DOMI Chianti RUFINA DOCG that is produced from I DOMI vineyard located closed to Podere Pianottolo Agriturismo around 280 mt above sea level with 20 years old vineyards

The blend is 90% Sangiovese 5% Canaiolo and 5% Colorino. The fermentation on the skins rarely exceeds 10 days and takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The wine is then put in Slavonian oak casks of 25 hl for around a year. This wine is like a little RESERVE it’s a CRU , I DOMI Chianti Rufina is a fragrant wine with an immediate pleasantness, good to drink young without the seriousness so typical of some Sangiovese. Tangy, tannic, with a lingering taste, balanced and harmonious the annual production is around 50,000 bottles.

QUONA Chianti RUFINA Reserve DOCG

The 30 years old vineyards under San Martino a QUONA church give the origin to our best Single Vineyard wine, a great RESERVE that from 2018 Vintage also is part of TERRAELECTAE wines from Chianti RUFINA ( TERRAELECTAE is a new denomination for only the best CRU of Only The best Sangiovese grapes of each Company of this area ). The grapes are fermented in concrete tanks at a controlled temperature for about 15 days. After racking the wine is transferred into large wooden barrels of Slavonian oak, where the malolactic fermentation takes place. The wine then spends about 18 months in French oak barriques of 225 first , the second and third passage. Finally aging in the bottle for about a year enhances the characteristics of this wine, full, velvety, compact, deep and with a great persistence, a true jewel capable of aging for a very long time. The annual production is around 25,000 bottles.

Vin Santo del Chianti Rufina DOC , a very small production of the company. Produced a base of Sangiovese and Canaiolo ( 80%) with also Malvasia Toscana (10%), Trebbiano (10%) , the grapes are harvested in late October and placed to be dried on reed mats until February. A soft pressing follows and the must is stored for seven years in casks that were originally made with chestnut from the neighbouring woods, but more recently of oak, cherry and juniper. During its long stay the cask is sealed preventing air from entering to avoid the risk of oxidation - one of the real enemies of Vin Santo and helping to produce its characteristic wrap-around sweet notes. With this wine you get a true nectar, amber colour, the bouquet reminiscent of honey, almond, walnut and chestnut trees, with a full and creamy taste.
