Vina Alicia

Viña Alicia was funded in 1996, by Alicia Mateu de Arizu; wife of renown winemaker Alberto Arizu, owner and alma mater of the Luigi Bosca corporation; and her youngest son Rodrigo Arizu, presented their wines called Paso de Piedra, Viña Alicia, and Coleccion de Familia. Arizu’s family has more than 400 years of winemaking tradition in Spain, and 120 years in Argentina.
We make wine because it is what our ancestors have done for over 400 years. Being one of the pioneer families in Argentina, where my most recent ancestors came in the 19th century to continue the family legacy. Starting with our main and main winery, which is Luigi Bosca until Viña Alicia, which is where our history, tradition and passion focused on wines, product of years of studies and experiences.

Philosophy

Our main philosophy is to make the wines that our ancestors produced hundreds of years ago, both with non-traditional varieties in Argentina as well as in the most natural way and with the right intervention of man.

Biography

Being the fourth generation (Rodrigo Arizu) in Argentina and with my father(Alberto Arizu) who is the alma mater of luigi bosca and third generation, we decided to join forces to make the wines that we believe are the expression of what our terroirs can grant

With “chateau-like” characteristics, the Viña Alicia winery is surrounded by a ten-hectare vineyard ( San Alberto, 2.950 feet and the most intensive vineyard in Argentina, 11.300 vines per hectare), which produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Nebbiolo, Syrah ,including some impossible-to-find “rarities” in Argentina, such as Grenache Noir, Albariño, Savagnin and Carignan, and two hectares of Petit Verdot (a clonal development of 20 years in the making).
Viña Alicia owns another 15-hectare ( 4.100 feet , 5.000 vines per hectare), a one hundred and fifty years old vineyard, in Las Compuertas, Lujan de Cuyo, where it produces exclusively Malbec and Brote Negro ( new Malbec biotype discovered in the vineyard).
