Earth Land People

Who We are

Founded by Camillo Zulli and six other growers in 1964, Cantina Orsogna (the producer of Lunaria), has expanded to a cooperative of 600+ farmers, all struck with the passion for the land they grow on. The farmers possess a powerful desire to achieve a greater level of integration and reciprocity between themselves, the terroir, community, and wildlife. This achieves wine that is honest and neighborly – happiness in a drink.

  • 450+ Winegrowers, 150+ Olive Growers
  • Community driven – the winery works closely with the BABALU charity organization that helps integrate those with special needs into the community.

Where we Live & Farm

Lunaria is an Organic & Biodynamic brand of the Cantina Orsogna cooperative located at the foot of Majella National Park in Abruzzo, one of the most intact natural parks in Europe. The presence of distinct flora and fauna right next to the vineyards allows for rich biodiversity and quality soil. The cooperative spans several vineyards, 70% organic, 30% biodynamic, and 100% integrated with the land perfectly.

How we practice

Increase biodiversity, sustainability & environment preservation through the creation and management of a self-contained, self-sustaining system following the cycles of nature, and able to create their own health and vitality out of the living dynamics on the farm.

  • Requires sensitive understanding of the rhythms of the earth and the cosmos
  • Application of Biodynamic compost preparations & spray preparations or “infusions” that promote soil regeneration & fertility
  • Biodynamic calendars have been developed that offer indications for optimal times for sowing, cultivating and harvesting
  • Demeter certification

Why biodynamic wine

Biodynamic farming & winemaking is about reciprocity with the earth’s ecosystems & protecting the interconnectedness of living organisms in each unique community. Each aspect plays a role in producing wine that reduces negative impacts on the environment. Preceding the industrial revolution this process was practiced for thousands of years in agriculture & wine production, for biodynamic winemaking is synonymous with ancestral knowledge & natural winemaking. This is inherent to Lunaria’s mission and their subsequent production.

  • All the beings, human and animal, working in harmony with nature to protect and preserve the health of our planet, our communities and you
  • Regenerate soil fertility, & protect biodiversity & promote interconnectedness
