The Story
The 2021 edition of this Chardonnay is all about that balance of sun and sea. The yields were relatively small this vintage but the fruit that arrived was pristine and full of intensity because of it. September brought excellent weather that allowed us to gain extra hangtime at our cool vineyards without adding extra weight.
The wine was crafted and aged in a mix of stainless-steel drums, new French oak barrels (20%) and neutral French oak barrels for 10 months.
The result is a wine that provides a cool orchard nose of stone fruit, apple, and a hint of something tropical while on the palate it delivers lemon confit, white peach, underripe pineapple and a hint of vanilla bean. The finish is long and savory.
Perfect as an aperitif, along with dinner — or long after.
About BloodRoot
Producer Story
The spirit of BloodRoot is simple—make wines that reflect the soul of place, and make them at a quality and value that make them absolute no-brainers to drink. BloodRoot Wines is a project spearheaded by Noah and Kelly Dorrance, of Reeve Wines. The name connotes “life from death” as the “blood” of the vines is nourished by the “roots” and terroir that surround each plant. Known for elegant California Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Red Blends—while also playing around with more obscure varieties— BloodRoot is also involved in community activism as part of 1% for the Planet, and the annual Ramble—a music festival to raise money to combat gun violence in honor of the Dorrance’s niece, Evelyn.
