The Story
Vrede Chardonnay is Storm Wines' expression of power and balance from Bokkeveld shale soils in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Grown on a northeast-facing slope with low-vigour, stony soils, the vineyard delivers fruit of intensity and clarity. Fermented naturally in barrel and aged with minimal intervention, the 2022 vintage shows remarkable purity, white stone fruit, and herbal lift. "Vrede" means peace, and this wine is a poised and quietly powerful reflection of its site.

After 12 vintages in Hemel-en-Aarde, Hannes Storm founded Storm Wines to express the region’s unique terroirs through site-specific Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Together with his wife Nathalia, Storm handcrafts wines from all three Hemel-en-Aarde appellations—Valley, Upper Valley, and Ridge—each with distinct soils and microclimates. Farming is minimal-intervention and production is small. With a focus on purity, precision, and Old World restraint, Storm Wines captures the cool-climate elegance of South Africa’s premier Pinot and Chardonnay region.
