The Story

The story on the Shiraz comes to mind a kingdom where King that had a big Harem and one young bride that was very lonely because she had not compete with all the other brides. So she decided to go down to the dungeon and the basement of the property and was going to kill herself. Now there in the dungeons they stored all kind foods including grapes into this big funnel where the bottom was a bit open and the juice poured into a bowl and the liquid that was dripping down, she thought this was poison and it's decided to drink it to take her life. As it turnout it was fermented wine and she got little bit tipsy and she fell asleep and she had pleasant dreams. After she woke up, she went to the king and told him what she found and told her what had happened to her. Then the King was very happy and saw that she was indeed very beautiful and thy lived very happily after that. The motto of this story is you want to get lucky drink a little bit of Shiraz.

About Babylonstoren

Producer Story

The vineyards of Babylonstoren are nestled on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain, just north of Stellenbosch between Paarl & Franschhoek. The name dates back to a time when a large hill on the property became a routine meeting spot for the diverse local population. It became referred to as “The Tower of Babel” due to the converging of the many languages spoken in the area. The farm is owned by former magazine editor Karen Roos. The first vintage was in 2011. The cellar master is Charl Coetzee (formerly of Kaapzicht & Clos Malverne) & the winemaker is Klaas Stoffberg (formerly of Ernie Els Wines). The farm grows many varietals, including Chenin Blanc, Viognier, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, & Petit Verdot. Chardonnay & Pinot Noir grow in the highest site.
