The Character

Overall vibrant red fruit with the earth driven profile
Aromas rhubarb, tarragon, red currants, and wild blackberry
Tasting Notes In the 2021 Courtship we find a beautiful mingling of vibrant red fruit with the earth driven profile of a classic mountain wine. Courtship's inviting aromas include rhubarb, tarragon, red currants, and wild blackberry bramble. A sense of umami and minerality at entry sets the stage for primary, unabashed fruit on the palate, like black cherries at peak season. The powdery, pleasant tannins that follow are reminiscent of red plums and their skins. Juiciness is balanced by lithe, lingering structure.

The Story

In 1998, Henry and Vanessa Cornell purchased a plot of rugged, untamed ground on a former stagecoach route where vines had been tended by early settlers. With respect for the land foremost in their minds, they returned the rolling hillsides to vineyards. Getting to know these vineyards has been a romance.
Our mountain estate was established in 2001, followed by redevelopment of select blocks eleven years later. A new bond was forged between the land and these young vines. Courtship is a sophisticated, vibrant expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, rigorously selected and complete in its own right. The 2017 Courtship is evidence that, farmed with care, a vineyard at any stage can offer wines of beauty and meaning. We invite you to bear witness to this ongoing relationship.
