The Story
Storm Ridge Chardonnay is a focused expression of Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge terroir, grown on cool eastern slopes with stony Bokkeveld shale. Made with a natural, low-intervention approach, the wine undergoes wild fermentation and ages in old oak, allowing its purity and tension to shine. Hannes Storm crafts Ridge Chardonnay with precision and elegance, resulting in a wine that’s bright, mineral, and built for aging—beautifully balancing citrus, stone fruit, and a persistent, linear finish.

After 12 vintages in Hemel-en-Aarde, Hannes Storm founded Storm Wines to express the region’s unique terroirs through site-specific Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Together with his wife Nathalia, Storm handcrafts wines from all three Hemel-en-Aarde appellations—Valley, Upper Valley, and Ridge—each with distinct soils and microclimates. Farming is minimal-intervention and production is small. With a focus on purity, precision, and Old World restraint, Storm Wines captures the cool-climate elegance of South Africa’s premier Pinot and Chardonnay region.
