Dom de Montbourgeau

Montbourgeau is the story of a family estate on which, for almost a century, each generation has expressed its passion for vines and wine.

In 1920 Victor Gros bought Montbourgeau and began to plant the vineyard. In 1956 Jean took over from his father: he created the winery and was keen to enlarge the vineyard and develop the estate. In 1986 Nicole Deriaux moved in, modernized the cellars, continued the plantations which enabled her to produce a yellow wine and developed export sales. In 2019 César 4th generation takes over the reins with projects for new plots, a new winery...with dreams...

Vine and wine work: Montbourgeau is 11ha of vines planted with Chardonnay, Savagnin and a few Trousseau and Poulsard grape varieties.

Philosophy

Our philosophy is “ intergenerational ”. Like the vine and the wine, we combine empiricism and novelty, experience and youth... seamlessly. On the family estate, the work is organized from the cultivation of the vine to the marketing, through the vinification and the aging of the wines. The philosophy of our work is respect for the land, more worked with grassing favored on the hillsides, and respect for the vine whose protection of each plot is reasoned. In Montbourgeau, it is always in the vineyard that the date of the harvest is decided by observing the plots, monitoring the maturity of the grapes, tasting them.
The harvest remains manual and is organized between harvesting Crémant and Vin de Paille then plot by plot for the Chardonnay, Poulsard and Trousseau grapes and finally Savagnin. The vines are close to the estate and the grapes will be pressed quickly.
