The Story

Ghiaccio Forte embodies Sandro and Filippo Chia’s commitment to the local tradition of growing Sangiovese on the hills of Morellino di Scansano. The profound passion for and knowledge of this variety, as well as the constant pursuit of quality, gave life to a particular expression of Morellino di Scansano: the authentic fruit of its terroir.
The vineyards, planted on the steep slopes of the Aquilaia Mountains and on the gentle hills of the Albegna Valley, are located in the southernmost tip of the denomination, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
Yields are extremely low, each vineyard is harvested upon reaching perfect maturation and vinified separately to respect the peculiar characteristics of each plot. The grapes are carefully selected and destemmed by hand before being gently transferred to stainless steel tanks. Maceration in contact with the skins lasts for about two weeks before undergoing soft pressing. Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks then follows. The result is a clear, concentrated yet silky Morellino di Scansano that reveals a distinctive Sangiovese that is the pure expression of its terroir.
