The Story

10-75 years old vines, biodynamic, dry farmed vineyards. Farming is the most essential element to Javier and Miguel. Before starting their own winery in 2002, they were farming for top producers in Ribera del Duero. They implement biodynamics by collecting herbs in the vineyards, which they in turn brew into teas for spray applications. Yarrow, horsetail,
chamomile are the primary herbs.

About Hornillo Ballesteros

Brand Story

Miguel Hornillos and Javier Ballesteros are not just longtime friends or business partners, they're brothers-in-law (Javier married Miguel's sister, Cristina). Both third generation grape growers from Ribera del Duero, they joined their experiences and 40 ha of vineyards to pursue their own winemaking adventures. They sell most of their grapes to some of the region's most prestigious wineries. And with the meager 10-15% of the harvest they save for themselves, they create uniquely soulful, hand-crafted wines. With ultimate respect for their beautifully rugged vineyards, they are committed to producing ecologically farmed wines. They follow biodynamic philosophies and treatments with minimal intervention in the winery.
