The Story
Winemaking has been in the Ardinat family since 1750. The vineyards have been cultivated by Serge Faust’s daughter Joëlle, her husband, José Ardinat, and their son Christophe since 1984. Located in Vandieres along a hillside above the Marne river in the middle of the AOC, the additional clay in the soil is an important factor in making the area known for Pinot Meunier production. Started by Serge in 1968 and organic since 1971, Ardinat-Faust is one of only three producers from that time that is still organically grown (there was no official certification back then, and only a handful of other growers trying). Certified in 1995 by EcoCert, today they are one of only 100 certified growers out of 3,000 in the region.
On their 8 hectares of vineyards, 66% is Meunier, with 17% each of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir also planted. Their grower champagnes further distinguish them, with just 5% of champagne sales fitting into this category. Christophe Ardinat remains faithful to his father and grandfather’s legacy as one of only a few certified organic growers in Champagne. He is even experimenting with Biodynamic practices.
