The Character

Aromas Cherry red, violet nose, intense, tense, youthful. Aromatic, fresh red fruit, some licorice
Mouthfeel long finish, easy to drink
Tasting Notes Cherry red, violet nose, intense, tense, youthful. Aromatic, fresh red fruit, some licorice, the wood is there but you have to look for it. Once in the mouth you feel the structure, the volume, but its all restrained, the tannin is fine and the wine is long. So easy to drink. What it must have been like to drink 1920s Viña Real before beginning the lengthy barrel ageing. This is a complex wine with great ageing potential. It expresses our terroir from Laguardia, Rioja Alavesa.
Selling Point A tribute to how Vina Real was in 1920s. Terroir driven wine
Sustainability Green Practicing, Sustainable In Practice

The Story

Bakeder, pronounced back-aid-er, is a wine from Laguardia, a village from Rioja Alavesa. The name, “beautiful as peace” is a loose translation from the Basque language.

Let the Whole World know the beauty of the fortified medieval village of Laguardia, protected by its great sierra; its solemn churches and monuments; its historic vineyards, and of course, its magnificent wines.

Bakeder is a tribute to our car-free village of Laguardia. The antithesis of tannic concentration, it is profound, long and fine.

About Vina Real

Producer Story

In 1920 the first Viña Real wines were launched. These wines were produced from grapes grown around Elciego, in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa province. These vineyards, to this day are still controlled by Viña Real and continue to border the ‘Camino Real’ or ‘Royal Drive’; hence the origin of the Viña Real name. The Viña Real wines are modern in structure, balanced and elegant, with a potential for very long ageing in bottle, this last being the main characteristic of the Rioja Alavesa province. With its perfect blend of Cvne’s more than 125 years of tradition and expertise and the most innovative winemaking methods, Viña Real has established itself at the forefront of the wine industry.
