The Story

Ignis Pinot Noir is Storm Wines' expression of fire-born terroir, crafted from organically farmed vines rooted in decomposed granite in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Named after the Latin word for "fire," Ignis nods to its volcanic soil origins. Hannes Storm, known for his precision and restraint, allows the vineyard to speak through native fermentations, partial whole-bunch inclusion, and minimal cellar handling. The result is a poised, bright, mineral-driven Pinot Noir that honors its site and radiates tension, fruit purity, and elegant structure.

About Storm Wines

Producer Story

After 12 vintages in Hemel-en-Aarde, Hannes Storm founded Storm Wines to express the region’s unique terroirs through site-specific Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Together with his wife Nathalia, Storm handcrafts wines from all three Hemel-en-Aarde appellations—Valley, Upper Valley, and Ridge—each with distinct soils and microclimates. Farming is minimal-intervention and production is small. With a focus on purity, precision, and Old World restraint, Storm Wines captures the cool-climate elegance of South Africa’s premier Pinot and Chardonnay region.
