The Character

Overall Approachable and well-structured
Aromas Coconut, damson plums, leather, vanilla, baking spice, ripe red fruit, incense, thyme, dill
Mouthfeel Velvety, savory, with excellent length
Tasting Notes "Impressive, indeed, for a Crianza. Raspberry and cassis, with a hint of briary, charcuterie and smoke; then the palate which is just reaching the plateau of drinkability, the tannins now mature, the fruit now ceding to more savoury notes; a little menthol kick on the finish working really well. Great value." --Simon Field
Selling Point Classic mature Rioja with excellent typicity
Pairings Roast lamb, pimientos de padron, pork stew
Awards 92pts Tim Atkin, 90pts Decanter
Sustainability Vegan, Organic In Practice

The Story

This wine comes from a family-owned, Single Estate, situated in the northern area of Rioja Alta. Their 75 hectares of vineyards have been carefully nurtured by the family for four generations and they use organic fertilizers, indigenous yeasts and avoid the use of weedkillers and pesticides. The vines are grown mainly in the bush form and yields are kept low. The grapes for this wine come from 30 + year old vines and are hand-harvested and selected. It has spent 12 months in American oak barrels before extended period in bottle in the Bodega.
