The Story
We've been producing Chenin Blanc since 2013, typically in a dry, fresh style, although we have produced a couple vintages with varying amounts of botrytis. We believe the variety is well-suited to West Texas, with some vines from the 1970's still in production. Chenin's vigor, cold-hardiness and expressiveness of terroir make it a good variety for high elevation winegrowing in old caliche based soils. The dry climate from the semi-arid High Plains helps prevent disease with Chenin's naturally thin skins, although in wet vintages botrytis is possible.
